Step 5. Now we'll change the color of the mask from black to a dark green (which you probably can't see on your screen but trust me, it’s green).

Make sure the mask layer is selected. You’ll use a Layer Effect to quickly change the color.* From the Photoshop menu choose Layer > Effects > Color Fills. Click the color square to bring up the Color Picker. Choose a color from the Color Picker window and click OK. Click OK to close the Effects window. The mask will now contain the new color you selected.

*Layer Effects were introduced in Photoshop 5.0. If you’re using an older version of Photoshop, just select the mask and fill it with a new color.
